HISD talks unconventional marketing approach to The Weakend

In an interview with #BodegaRadio on PNCRadio.fm, Hueston Independent Spit District (H.I.S.D.) discussed it’s acclaimed project, The Weakend and their unconventional approach to it’s release. “I think the goal going forward as independent artists is that you’ve gotta figure out how to stretch the stuff that you do,” says Savvi Poindexter.

“We dropped on a Friday. That was the digital release, October 29th [2010] for the weekend but it tied in because it was The Weakend, literally and figuratively according to the concept of the record. Then a month later we dropped the physical CDs and then two months later we dropped the vinyl. Then we got the comic book and possible film in the works as well. We plan on promoting this at the very minimum, a year. We have enough content built into this story and into this record that we can be releasing stuff for at least a year to a year and a half -- visuals and other things, tangible or non-tangible items related to it.”

H.I.S.D. is a Houston, TX based collective consisting of members Savvi Poindexter, LDA Voice, Equality and Scottie Spitten. The group recently performed at HOT97‘s Who’s Next Showcase at SOBs with French Montana. Their third album, The Weakend is a concept record entirely produced by in house producers King Midas, E. Classic and Kozmos and is released through PeaceUvMine Entertainment Group, LLC.
